Hiking trails in the Dolomites

Starting point for the excursion is the car park of Presule Castle (840 m). The path starts off level throuth a pine tree forest and fields to the Riefer Keller or more correctly, the Riefer farm, past a small chapel devoted to the Madonna. Leaving behind on your right the Flunger and Dosser farms, take the narrow road on the right which leads, via an underpass of the main road to Tires, to the Zalter farm. Keep on walking uphill to the left through a chestnut wood and mixed vegetation before descending quite suddenly down to the Faust farm. From the sbove mentioned farmstead carry uphill again keeping to the left. You then find yourself among beautiful meadows and on your right lies the Renon Plateau with its famous earth pyramids and the little village of Auna di Sotto. For a short way walk along the tarmacked road, then take the narrow road that leads to the Tommele farm (Mitterpsenner). Walk through a mixed woodland and pass the little chapel devoted to S. Urbanus. Leave the Gmoaner farm, a farmstead that goes back to 1317, on your right and continue through apple orchards. On the right you can see the little village of Collepietra and in front of you enjoy the magnificient view of the Tires valley and the Catinaccio to their left the Monte Cavone Having reached Hotel Prackfol take the right footpath leading uphill to the Gstatscher farm. Straight after this farmstead, walk through meadows and fields to the Innerperskol farm and after the little chapel of S. Floriano (1736) you reach the Zoar farm. A little tarmacked road leads you to a beautiful farmstead, built in sandstone and called Front (mentioned for the first time as the bishop's property in 1379). Beside it you find the Finger frm, with a remarkable fresco close to the entrance door. A rather narrow footpath takes you through a deciduous forest, then into the little valley of the river Zien, over a wooden suspension bridge and uphill to the tarmacked road. Leave Aica di Fiè (879 m) on your left and continue the walk keeping to the right. Cross over the main road to Tires and carry on a little forest road, that in parts winds through a larch forest. Once again you reach the tarmacked road which you underpass and then follow a narrow path on the left through beautiful meadows to Santa Caterina. In front of the little church there is the last of those lovely farmsteads, the Michaeler.
